From the foundation until now
1948 Where it all started
1948 marks the beginning of our journey: Jakob Ellenberger and Harald A. Poensgen founded Ellenberger & Poensgen GmbH in Altdorf near Nuremberg.
1955 Living the American Dream!
With the establishment of our sales office in Chicago, we set the first foot out of Germany - and at the same time marked the beginning of our global orientation.
1958 A landmark decision
We set out on a path that was to shape the future of the company: 1958 marks the beginning of the E-T-A range of device circuit breakers (CBE).
Who could have guessed back then that we would eventually become the world market leader in this field?
1961 A second foothold in Germany
The demand for our products increased, so it was only logical: in 1961 we opened our second production site in Hohenfels in the Upper Palatinate.
1976 God save the Circuit!
We're branching out: In 1976, we gained a foothold in the UK with the establishment of E-T-A Circuit Breakers Ltd. in Aylesbury.
1977 From Almaniya to Tunisiya
The opening of our production facility in Akouda marked the beginning of the manufacturing of E-T-A products in Tunisia.
1978 Christened in the name of...
In this year we found our name, which still exists today: E-T-A Elektrotechnische Apparate GmbH was officially founded.
1980 Europe is growing
The economy boomed and E-T-A expanded as well: during the 80s and early 90s, subsidiaries followed in Austria, Spain, Belgium, Italy and France. So, we are now represented (almost) everywhere in Central Europe.
1994 Big in Japan
We took the plunge into the Far East and opened a sales office in Japan. This is still located in Tokyo Bay today.
1997 Expansion in Asia
A new E-T-A production facility was established in Pasuruan, Indonesia to serve the rapidly growing Southeast Asian region.
In the same period, E-T-A Asia Pacific was established in Singapore to take our distribution activities to a new level.
2005 Keep on going!
E-T-A opened more sales offices in the Pacific region. We are now represented in China, Thailand and Australia.
2008 Selamat pagi, Surabaya!
In 2008, our new factory opened in Surabaya, Indonesia.
2017 Records, records, records
The University of St. Gallen confirmed E-T-A as the world market leader in the field of appliance circuit breakers and automatic circuit breakers for the first time.
We also passed the 100 million euro turnover mark for the first time - and clearly!
2019 We love working here!
Confirmed by Great Place To Work®, E-T-A is one of Germany's best employers. In 2022, another employee survey confirmed the result.
2021 Digital and innovative
E-T-A is one of "Germany's digital innovation leaders" and receives an award from the F.A.Z. Institute for this.
2023 "Small" but powerful
With our 75th anniversary there is another reason to celebrate: on our open day we also present our new small parts warehouse (KTL for short) to the public.
Another big step for our production in Germany to face the next 75 years in a future-proof way.
